Privacy Policy

• Email address — required to create an account and sign in. We use passwordless "magic link" sign-in, so your email is how we verify it's you.
• Name, account type — optional, provided by you when you sign up or edit your profile.
• Guide-profile details — for Local Expert accounts: guide license number, years of experience, languages, interests, and abilities, if you choose to add them.
• Profile picture — if you choose to upload one.
• Listing content — anything you submit when adding a business, driver, hotel, café, safari company, attraction, or expert listing, including photos.
• Basic technical data — standard web server/hosting logs (e.g. IP address, browser type), collected automatically by the infrastructure that runs this site, used only for security and reliability, not for tracking individuals.

We don't ask for passwords, payment details, or government ID — and you should never submit those to us either.

• Your email address is never shown publicly — it's used only for signing in and, if you're an admin, shown to other admins for internal moderation.
• Your name, profile picture, and any guide-profile details you choose to fill in may be shown alongside listings you're credited on — treat anything you enter here as visible to others.
• Listings and their photos are public by design — that's the point of the directory. Don't submit anything, in text or photos, that you wouldn't want any visitor to see.

We use the information above to run your account, display listings, let admins moderate content, and keep the site secure. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run CeylonDaththa — for example, companies that host our database, send sign-in emails, store uploaded photos, and help us understand site traffic (see Cookies & Analytics below). They only process data on our behalf, to provide those services, not for their own purposes.

We don't otherwise share your personal information with third parties, except where required by law.

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in after you click your magic-link email.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use CeylonDaththa — which pages are popular, roughly where visitors are browsing from (country/city level, not a precise location), and what device or browser they're using. This helps us improve the site; it's aggregate usage data, not used for advertising, and we don't use it to build an individual profile of you.

Google Analytics sets its own cookies to do this and processes some data (such as your IP address, in truncated/anonymized form) on Google's servers. You can read Google's privacy policy or opt out of Google Analytics tracking entirely using Google's browser opt-out add-on.

We don't use advertising cookies, and we don't sell or share analytics data with anyone beyond what's described here.

Please don't upload sensitive personal data — yours or anyone else's — such as ID or passport numbers, financial details, health information, or exact private addresses, and please don't upload personal or sensitive photos of yourself or others. This is a public platform, and anything submitted to a listing is visible to anyone who visits the site.

We keep account and listing information for as long as your account or listing stays active. If you'd like your account, or a listing you submitted, removed, contact us and we'll action it.

You can ask us to see what information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, by contacting us (see below).

CeylonDaththa isn't intended for children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

We may update this policy as the site changes. We'll update the date at the top when we do.
